An evergreen forest. The ocean. Cunha's in Half Moon Bay, before the fire. Solvent and ink. Pipe smoke at the mall, before the ban. A new book. Elevators. Wineries. A vineyard at night, during harvest. Ice skating rinks. A house being built. A freshly washed karate gi. The rides at Disneyland. A cold creek amidst ferns, nettles, and decomposing eucalyptus leaves. Witches' Kitchen in the basement of the Wilkinsons' house.Current Mood: nostalgic Current Music: Fleetwood Mac - Little Lies

This is my own creation. It's a rough recipe, but so far my results have been pretty tasty.
1/2 c soy sauce 1/2 c water 1/8 c lemon juice ~3 T peanut oil 2 cloves garlic, minced 8 heaping small spoons sugar 4 heaping small spoons corn starch 1 1/2 t ginger powder
1 1/2 large granny smith apples, peeled and cubed, 1/4" an equivalent amount of peanuts (1 1/3 c?)
6 large eggs 2 c flour 2 c water
peanut oil for deep-frying
Mix first eight ingredients, heat over medium heat until thickened, stirring as necessary. Mix apple cubes and peanuts, and coat with sauce. Set aside. Mix eggs, flour, and water to make crepe batter. Pour a 4" circle of batter onto a skillet or crepe pan. Use a pastry brush to spread batter, making a thin crepe, about 9". Cook until completely solid. Transfer crepe to a dish, and cover with a damp paper towel. Repeat, making the rest of the crepes. Spoon a dollop of apple-peanut mixture onto a crepe (about the size of a cork, to start), towards the bottom edge. Fold the two sides in, then roll it from the bottom. Repeat for all of the crepes. Using tongs, fry the rolls in hot peanut oil. Serve hot.
Makes about 24 rolls.Current Mood: proud Current Music: Construction down the street.

Today the air conditioner stopped making noise. I don't know why--maybe it's broken. Excited, I quickly shut down my computer, expecting the silence I've been missing. Then... 60 Hz. What buzzes at 60 Hz? Fluorescent lights. I turn off my light. Still, there's a faint hum. Nothing compared to the noise the air conditioner used to make, but I had almost gotten used to that constant obtrusion into my otherwise dark and gloomy environment. I fear that unless there's a power outage, I will always be cursed with some noise or another as long as I'm in this building.Current Mood: cranky Current Music: Spinning fans and hard drives.

Bon Voyage Miss Linneman
When I got the postcard, the first thing I noticed was the printing. Not lithography. Not gravure. It turns out that collotype is a form of printing not really used anymore. Except for a low dynamic range and the use of ink, it almost looks like a photographic print.

Memo One's done. Seven hours, approximately.
It's interesting how time can seem to go slowly and quickly at the same time, depending on what scale you look at it on. For example, a two-hour class can drag on, while the day itself doesn't seem to have enough hours. Perhaps a week filled with busy days passes relatively quickly, but what happened a month ago seems like ancient history.

I've started to use ebay again. So far I've won a set of cuff links, and a postcard. The cuff links are mother of pearl ellipses, a little over an inch long. The post card is vintage, and of a spiral staircase. Suitable for framing, I'd say. I should be fine as long as I stay away from the designer clothes of questionable origin.

It's a good feeling when you can get a whole elevator full of people to laugh. It's a good feeling when you've done all of the reading. It's not a good feeling when you need to take a nap to double the night's sleep.
Goodnight, again.

This morning I found out that the metro goes to a mall that looks pretty good. Macy's, Nordstrom, Guess, A|X, and Marshals, among others. And, a Trader Joe's is supposed to be opening in DC in a week or so.
Went to Monticello today. Took some pictures.
Move-in is in two days.

I've been busying myself with music lately. Yesterday I recorded some old 78's onto my computer, and today I found jamendo.com. Free music albums, and it uses P2P technology.

Well, I did it. I finally signed up for a livejournal account. As of now, I'm not sure how much I'll use it, and what I'll use it for. This seems like a good time to start journaling though.
